Today,on 10December, we commemorate the Human Rights Day.
Mainly, Human Rights Day 2009 will focus on non-discrimination. “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. These first few famous words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights established 60 years ago the basic premise of international human rights law. Yet today, the fight against discrimination remains a daily struggle for millions around the globe.
The realisation of all human rights - social, economic and cultural rights as well as civil and political rights – is hampered by discrimination.
I think today is a good chance to think about things we usually do and that maybe, they could cause a discrimination situation, because yet everyone of us can make a difference.
Without thinking of discrimination in particular, I want to highlight the work of human rights, recognizing the equal rights of all people, and in a world like ours is not inconvenient reminding this to most people.
Finally, I want to point out that a good way to avoid a discrimination situation could be treating others as we wish others treated us.
